Cote d'Ivoire's President Alassane Ouattara says his country will soon lift its controversial suspension of flights to countries stricken by the Ebola virus.

Ouattara made the remarks while addressing the United Nations General Assembly.

He said the initial decision to suspend flights was prompted by uncertainty about the threat, which he called a terrible problem for the people of West Africa.

"When Ebola broke out people got panicked, and obviously we rushed into taking certain decisions, but I have announced that now that everything in under control. There is no case of Ebola in Cote d'Ivoire. I have decided that next week we will lift the suspension of flights, the maritime suspension and also we have opened a humanitarian corridor, so we can check people who want to come to Cote d'Ivoire."

Cote d'Ivoire has also contributed one million US dollars to the international anti-Ebola effort.

Meanwhile, Ouattara said that problems with the Force Nouvelle, a rebel group based in the north of his country, have been solved.

The President is repotedly allied with the group, which a UN panel of experts has been critical of.
