FAW-Volkswagen has been fined 249 million yuan or 41 million U.S. dollars for price fixing by the Hubei provincial pricing bureau.

The National Development and Reform Commission says the company signed agreements with car dealers in Hubei between 2012 and 2014 on prices for car sales and repairs.

Eight of its car dealerships in Hubei will receive antitrust tickets with a combined value of nearly 30 million yuan.

Xu Kunlin, Director General of the NDRC Price Supervision, Inspection, and Anti-Monopoly Bureau, further explains.

"Our anti-monopoly law enforcement work is carried out strictly in accordance with legal procedures and is fair and transparent. It is not directed at any market subject, and this of course includes foreign invested enterprises or foreign enterprises."

Xu says the NDRC treats local and overseas companies equally to ensure justice for all.

The comments come amid complaints about a series of anti-monopoly investigations targeting leading global brands such as Microsoft, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz over the past two months.
