France is to host an international conference next Monday to support Iraq's efforts to fight off the advance of the Islamic State militant group.
French President Francois Holland will travel to Iraq tomorrow on talks about combating the IS.
The move comes after a new Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was sworn in.
"At the NATO summit there were the beginnings of an alliance which should come together in the next few days. I have also proposed a conference on Iraq and the fight against this terrorist group called Daesh, which is neither a state, nor can it associate itself with Islam - because this conference will allow us to co-ordinate all these efforts."
Iraqi president Fouad Massoum and leaders of regional powers are expected to attend the Paris conference.
