A poll released ahead of the Scottish Referendum has suggested that the "Yes" campaign has now taken a narrow lead for the first time.

The YouGov survey, commissioned by The Sunday Times newspaper, suggests the Yes campaign leads by 51 to 49 percent.

Scotland's Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon calls the poll "encouraging."

"It is a very encouraging poll, and it reflects what we are finding on the ground, in the campaign across the country, but you are absolutely right, it is only one poll. There is another poll out today shows the Yes campaign still narrowly behind so we have got a lot of work still to do, there is not a hint of complacency in the yes campaign, we will be working flat out."

Meanwhile, UK finance minister George Osborne has promised a timetable for further devolution if voters in Scotland reject independence at the ballot box.

Osborne says a "plan of action" on more powers to Scotland would be detailed in the coming days concerning tax, spending and welfare.

He says the plan will be put into effect the moment there is a 'No' vote in the referendum.

Scottish voters go to the polls on September 18 to vote on whether Scotland should become independent from Britain.
