The United Kingdom is now beefing up its security for today's NATO Summit.

Large parts of Wales have been put on lock down so as to protect some 60 heads of state and government and entourages.

Police say that the security level during the summit has been raised to the same as that during the 2012 London Olympics.

Jon Stratford is the assistant director of South Wales Police.

"To secure all those sites and to keep the whole area safe, we've got a total of about 9,500 police officers are involved in the whole operation over the 10-day period."

This comes after the UK's decision to raise its terrorist threat level to "severe" last week in response to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Syria.

During the two-day NATO summit, state leaders will address pressing issues concerning the Ukraine Crisis, the Middle East and North Africa.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron have made a joint statement in The Times Newspaper, vowing to stand together on the Ukraine crisis.

The two leaders add that Britain and the U.S will not waver in their determination to confront the so-called Islamic State extremist group.
