Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony for the upcoming 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games on Saturday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and presidents from several other countries will also attend the ceremony.
Athletes from across the world are starting to arrive in Nanjing for the event.
A welcome ceremony will be held in the Olympic Village for athletes on Friday night, just hours ahead of the opening of the games.
Host China is sending a delegation of 123 athletes to the event, which will feature 28 sports - adding golf and rugby.
The Youth Olympic Games are for young athletes aged between 15 and 18.
