Foreign countries have been evacuating their citizens from Libya due to a worsening security situation there.

Chinese ambassador to Libya Li Zhiguo says some 900 Chinese nationals have been evacuated from Libya over the past three weeks.

Over 12-hundred Chinese nationals were in the country ahead of the evacuation.

But the ambassador says that dozens of Chinese, including employees of China's IT giant Huawei, have decided to stay.

Contingency plans set by the embassy are in place for them.

In the last several weeks, Libya has descended into its deadliest violence since the 2011 uprising with the central government unable to impose order.

Libya's new parliament has held its first formal session away from the capital Tripoli as clashes between rival militias deepened.

An independent lawmaker Akila Saleh Issa has been selected as the president of Libya's House of Representatives.

For more on the Libya situation, CRI's John Artman earlier talked to He Wenping, an African studies expert with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
