The International Monetary Fund is suggesting the Chinese government refrain from bringing in stimulus measures unless the economy threatens to slow sharply.

The IMF, in its latest China analysis, contends a 6.5 to 7-percent growth rate next year should be considered acceptable for the Chinese economy.

Markus Rodlauer, deputy director of the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department, also says the current measures being used by the Chinese government to tackle this year's earlier slowdown are proving to be effective.

"We have seen over the last year, a very important impact of reform measures, both in the financial sector but also in the real economy. And that is, we have seen a slowing of credit growth. We have seen some slow down of the economy of investment growth and in some sense, we feel that is good because it shows that the measures that were implemented by the central bank, by the local governments in investment, have actually started to become effective."

The IMF is predicting China's economic growth will dip to 7.4 percent this year, and decelerate further to 7.1 percent next year. The Chinese government has set a full-year target of 7.5-percent.
