Shopping online has been welcomed by many Chinese young people for having a reputation of being time-saving and convenient. However, as it becomes more and more popular, the quality of the online goods has decreased. Many consumers have experience of buying fake items from the online traders.

In an effort to combat these infringements, the China Consumer Association has called on online shopping sites including Taobao and Alibaba, China's biggest online shopping websites, to launch protection centers to assert consumers' rights.

Shopping online prevails all over China. According to a survey on the website of Chinanews.com, in the year 2009, more than 1.3 billion people purchased online, contributing to a total volume of about 38-trillion US dollars. However, according to another survey by the Beijing Consumer Association, the complaint rate of online consumers has also risen to be twice as large as it was in 2008.
