广播听力: Experts: More Efforts Needed to Crackdown on Mobile Phone Porns

With the government's efforts to crackdown on internet porn, it isn't easy for Chinese netizens to access pornographic content via personal computers any more.

However, obscene content is spreading on mobile internet as 3G networks rapidly gain popularity.

A survey released by the China Internet Network Information Center shows that China has more than 180 million mobile internet users, a number which has increased by 30 percent compared with that of last year. (www.hXen.com)

A lack of filters for cell phones and easier internet access allows teens to download anything to their cell phones.

Lu Shizhen, vice Chairwoman of the China Youth and Children Research Association says that inappropriate content on mobile phones can harm young people's mental health.

"It will take a long time to help young people form a proper concept of sex and morality, but their concepts can be skewed by pornographic content and have a huge negative impact on children. Children are not mature enough, either mentally or physically, and our sex education is far from enough, so they are vulnerable to pornographic content."

Sun Yunxiao, a researcher from China Youth and Children Research Center points out that the mobile platform is subject to less control and moderation.

"Teens who surf on their cell phones can not be monitored by their parents or teachers. Why is pornography spreading aggressively and rapidly on mobile Internet? I think there is a hidden interest behind the telecom operators and those who provide pornography."

Unlike home-based internet services where content filters are available for the PC, telecom companies don't offer mobile-content filters.

Some insiders say, as telecos lower calling prices to attract more users, they turn to other services like 3G networks to make money. To gain more profits from information providers or websites, the companies may turn a blind eye to the content published on mobile internet.

Experts are calling for a severe crackdown on mobile internet pornography.
