Under the theme of the forum, "Seize the Trend, Time for Action and Public-Private Partnership", vice-president Xi Jinping gave a key note speech on strengthening international cooperation in ensuring a stable world economy.
"To deal with the world economic crisis, we need joint efforts from the global community. We should also accelerate reform in the world economic system so as to advance our resistance of further crises. "
The vice-president suggests that promoting trade liberalization between Asian and European countries is a key.
"On the basis of mutual benefit, China supports expanding mutual trade, increasing investment, technology, special talent and sharing information with ASEM member countries."
Agreeing with what the vice president said in his speech, Brenda Tynan, a senior official from the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, said moving away obstacles between Asian and European countries is of great importance.
"These are very difficult times for everybody all over the world, but things have been very good in China and also in Ireland. We need a lot of international cooperation and one of the immediate things we have to look out is trade facilitation. I think with good relation and cooperation, we will overcome these difficulties."
This year, about 800 high-level business leaders from ASEM member countries are participating in the forum. The forum allows government officials and business representatives to engage in direct dialogue. Liu Tonglian is the president of a business consulting company in China.
"The current economic crisis is also an opportunity for us. And our priority now is to seek opportunities to grow, and making our brand more competitive in the world market."
