Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said the Chinese government has required the recall of tainted milk powder already exported to foreign countries.
At a regular press conference on Tuesday in Beijing, Jiang Yu said that China will cooperate with quality controllers from other countries in an objective and scientific way to prevent the further spread of contaminated milk powder abroad.(Www.hXen.com)
"China has reported the latest information on tainted milk powder to the "World Health Organization" and other relevant countries. Meanwhile, China will continue to investigate the contaminated milk powder exported abroad and recall it immediately. Constant communication with other countries or regions will also be maintained."
The Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer, was found to have produced baby milk powder containing melamine, a chemical which caused hundreds of babies to be affected by acute kidney failure.
The State Council has ordered free treatment for all the children sicken by the tainted infant formula.
