Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon says he is looking forward to Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to the country. In addition to bilateral relations, Rakhmon says his meeting with the Chinese president will address important regional and global issues, including cooperation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, or SCO. A future visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao to Tajikistan will give a powerful impetus to the development of Chinese-Tajik relations.
Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon made the remarks during a recent interview with CRI.
"I believe President Hu Jintao's visit will be conducted in a sincere, friendly and cooperative atmosphere, and produce satisfactory results. We will not only reiterate principles for developing bilateral ties, but coordinate on major bilateral, regional and international issues.
Rakhmon also says that Tajikistan-China relations have reached a level of strategic partnership.
"Developing Tajik-China relations is strategic priority in Tajik's foreign policy. To strengthen the neighborly, friendly and cooperative ties between Tajikistan and China is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, and is helpful to maintain peace, security and stability in Europe, Asia and even the world".
He adds that the two countries are devoted to maintaining regional security by jointly fighting international terrorism, separatism, extremism and drug trafficking.(

On the Taiwan issue, the Tajik president says Tajikstan completely supports China's efforts in realizing its peaceful reunification, and opposes "Taiwan independence" in any form.
President Hu Jintao will pay his first state visit to Tajikistan between Aug. 26 and 30. He is also expected to attend the SCO summit in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe during the visit.
