Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Qingdao in east China's Shangdong province on Sunday to examine the port city's preparations for the Olympic sailing competition.
Hu Jintao inspected the regatta venues and the operating control system. He said he was impressed with the city's preparations for the Games next month.(Www.hxen.com)
"Shangdong Province has attached great importance to the preparation work of the Games' sailing event. It has not only built some high-standard competition venues but also strived to make the city environment even better."
The president also commended local people's efforts to clear all the green algae that had clogged the sailing venues since mid-June.
"After the outbreak of the green algae, Qingdao's people as well as the soldiers took immediate measures to deal with the problem. It's a decisive victory for them."
At the city's regatta training base, President Hu Jintao also met some Chinese and foreign athletes. He expressed his sincere wish that all the athletes achieve good results in the upcoming Games.
The sailing event will take place in Qingdao from August 8th to 23rd.
More than 400 athletes from nearly 60 countries and regions will compete for 11 gold medals.
