广播听力:Why Guangdong Cut Electricity Fees?

China's southern province of Guangdong is planning to cut electricity fees for industries and residents, since investigations have found that the Guangdong Power Grid Company raked in huge profits last year. Once approved, the price cut can save local people some money each year. This raised some debate among public.

The Henan Daily says the biggest influence of this price reform is not the price cut itself, but that it revealed monopoly industries are making too large a profit.

The Beijing-based newspaper The First says that going after profits shouldn't be the ultimate goal of monopoly enterprises. These enterprises are privileged in that they occupy resources given to them by the state. Therefore they should place the public's wellbeing above profits. The paper says they should not feel proud about exorbitant profits made.

Meantime, the Hefei Evening News points out that there was a year-long investigation of the Guangdong Power Grid Company prior to the price adjustment plan.The paper suggests
