The Special Olympics World Summer Games is underway in Shanghai. Preliminaries in six events including basketball dribbling and performance testing were held.
An artistic gymnast from the US said she enjoys training for the upcoming competition.
"I love it. I love it. It's fun. I feel talented. Grateful I can do this."
Debby Berdiglare, coach of the US gymnastics delegation, has lead the team to the Special Olympics three times. She is impressed with the Chinese people's hospitality.
"We've never had exposure to China, we're being welcomed here so warmly."
During the eight-day sports event, more than 7,000 athletes from over 160 countries will compete in 21 official events and four performance events. Around 25,000 medals have been prepared for the competition. |
