The FIFA Women's World Cup 2007 opened Monday evening in Shanghai.
China's State Councillor, also honorary president of the World Cup Organizing Committee, Chen Zhili, and FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, attended the opening ceremony.
The thirty minute ceremony, dubbed "Power of Beauty", reached a climax when famous Chinese woman footballer Sun Wen received the "holy football" from FIFA president.
In the first match after the ceremony, defending champions Germany beat Argentina 11:0.
On Tuesday, three matches will open respectively between Japan and England, the United States and DPRK , and Nigeria and Sweden.
This year's Women's World Cup will see the participation of 16 national teams from around the world.
The cup will last for twenty days from Monday, and will be reeled off in five Chinese cities, including Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin and Wuhan.
