The average age of university presidents in China is 52 years old, and a third of them have studied abroad. This is the latest survey result published by People's Daily.
According to the Paper, the investigation covered about 1,800 universities nationwide including all types of colleges. Among them about 44% of the presidents have doctor's degrees and some 70% of key universities presidents have studied overseas.
Education experts told People's Daily that the quality of presidents is a decisive factor in the long-term development of a university. Chinese headmasters have been rejuvenated and internationalized, offering Chinese universities better prospects.
However, the average tenure of Chinese University presidents is only about 4 years, shorter than in many other countries. The report suggests that a decade-long tenure will be beneficial to the stable development of a university.
The Paper also suggests that education level of the headmasters in senior vocational colleges and private institutions should level up and schools also need more headmistresses. |
