India marked the 60th anniversary of its independence on Wednesday, with massive celebrations in the capital New Delhi. The festivities included a formal changing-of-the-guard and the raising of the national flag by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh The prime minister has pledged to increase investments in education, health, and agriculture, and also to maintain good international relations. India and Pakistan gained their independenceat midnight on the 15th of August in 1947. The 60th anniversary of independence is marked on Tuesday in Pakistan. |
