The Origin of the Red Cross

Today, I came across a word-“Nightingale”, the name by which a kind of bird that sings in the night (“yeying” in Chinese). Then the name of the founder of the Red Cross flashed to my mind-Florence Nightingale.
The initial impression can date up to my primary school days. It was in an article from the teaching book that I knew her name. It was during the World War
or so, numerical soldiers were wounded .Nightingale, who was a nurse at that time, was sent to take care of the wounded soldiers. What impressed me most was thenickname” that the soldiers called her-Miss Lantern: when the soldier are all asleep in the night, Nightingale took a lantern in her hand and checked carefully to make sure that every soldier was fine. Soldiers who were fond of her would kiss her shadow on the floor. So moving when especially in the period of World WarⅡ.
After the war ended, Nightingale founded the Red Cross. Its institutions and functions have been perfected with days and its effect force and reputation has been boosted all around the world-not only does it mean rescuing, charity and fraternity are among its broadened meanings. Today, when we are forced up to tragedies or sorrows, the sign of Red Cross can always bring us peace of mind.
“Blessed China, United Countrymen”, there is no doubt that this has been the most frequently appeared word in our life ever since the broke-up of the 5.12 earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province. It was an occasion for us to appreciate fraternity. We have gathered up all we can to go to the frontline to save our people out of bitterness. The Red Cross has played its leading and decisive role.
Love is the eternal topic of human beings. In art pieces, love stories always go hand in hand with wars or disasters. The Pearl Harbor, which origins from the Japanese air-force’s hidden attack on the Pearl Harbor, which is regarded as the beginning of the World War
Ⅱ, tells the bitterness and the true love people experience during the war. The ending is on the whole satisfying-the leading actress and her lover lives happily ever after the war ended. Another world-wide famous movie, Titanic, which almost won all the Oscar Golden Prize ranging from direction to music in 1998.Inverted measure was taken by the director and we hold the whole story with Lucy’s reminiscing on the past. The ice mountain shocked Titanic and also shocked the wonderful dream of the two lovers. As its theme music goeslove can touch us one time but can last for a lifetime. The true love was really touching, still unforgettable was those violin players, who were real gentlemen. They gave life-making priorities to women and children, played the violin with peaceful expressions of their faces until Titanic sank to the sea. As a matter of fact, only at hash moments can we appreciate what “devotion” means, heroes in need are heroes in deed.
With the Beijing Olympic Games coming nearer and nearer, our propaganda “one world, one dream” has interpreted itself in many different fashions: cooperation of multi-culture opening up Beijing to the whole world in a newly way, explaining the culture of Olympic from the sight of an Asian country with a long history and brilliant cultures. Many disasters have we suffered from, still we are confident to smooth over.
Blessed China, United Countrymen! We are striving for triumph.
